Supwrite Terms of Use
Last updated: 9 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Rahul Agarwalla, an individual based in India who publishes Supwrite under the name Modern Analog (“we”, “us”, “our”). Modern Analog is a trading name. It is not yet a registered company.
They cover your use of the Supwrite mobile app (the “app”). By downloading or using the app, you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Our Privacy Policy explains how the app handles information. In short: what you write stays on your phone.
1. What Supwrite is
Each night at 22:00 your local time, the app shows a new image, the same image for every reader. You choose to write for five or ten minutes about what you think it is. When you finish, the app tells you what the image actually was.
A few things about how it works are deliberate, and are part of the service rather than faults in it:
- You write before you are allowed to know. The answer for a night is revealed only after you have written for that night. Nights you did not write on stay sealed, permanently.
- There is no catching up. You cannot write on a night after it has closed.
- Nights are numbered for everyone. Your archive starts from the night you first opened the app.
2. Who can use Supwrite
Supwrite is meant for people aged 13 and over. If you are under 18, you may use it only with the permission of a parent or guardian, who agrees to these terms on your behalf.
3. The app is free
The app is free to download and use. If we ever offer anything paid, it will be sold through the App Store or Google Play, and we will show you its price and terms before you buy.
4. Your licence to use the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use the app on devices you own or control, for your own non-commercial use, in line with these terms and the rules of the store you downloaded it from.
You may not:
- copy, modify, sell, rent or distribute the app, or any part of it;
- reverse engineer, decompile or try to extract its source code, except where the law expressly allows it despite this restriction;
- interfere with, overload or try to gain unauthorised access to the app or the systems that deliver its content;
- download or collect the app’s content by automated means; or
- use the app for anything unlawful.
5. What you write is yours
Everything you write in Supwrite belongs to you. We claim no rights in it. We never receive it, because it is stored only on your device.
This also means we cannot recover it. There is no account and no copy of your writing on our side. If your device is lost, damaged, reset or replaced without a backup, or if you delete the app, your entries are gone and we cannot restore them. Keeping your device backed up is your responsibility.
You are responsible for what you write and what you choose to share.
6. The images and stories
Each night’s image and its story belong to the person or organisation credited, or are in the public domain. They are licensed to us for showing in the app.
You may view them in the app. Where a night allows it, you may make a postcard of it and share that postcard for personal, non-commercial purposes. Some nights do not allow postcards, and the app will not offer one. Apart from this, you may not copy, publish, sell or otherwise use the images or stories outside the app without permission from whoever owns them.
We take care to make every story accurate and every credit correct, but they are provided for interest, not as professional, historical or factual advice, and we cannot guarantee that every detail is complete or correct. If you believe a credit or a fact is wrong, please tell us.
If you believe a night uses your work without permission, write to us at hi@modernanalog.co with details of the work, your rights in it, and the night concerned. We will look into it promptly and, where the claim is credible, stop serving that night. Please note that a night already shown remains in the archive of phones that opened it, which we cannot reach.
7. Sponsored nights
Some nights may be sponsored by a company. A sponsored night is always labelled as sponsored, with the sponsor’s name. Being sponsored does not change the rules: the reveal still opens only after you have written.
8. Links to other websites
Some nights include a link to where the image or its story comes from, or to a sponsor. These open in your browser. We do not control those websites and are not responsible for their content, products or privacy practices.
9. Our rights
The app, its name, the Supwrite and Modern Analog names and logos, the hamster, and the app’s design, text and software belong to Rahul Agarwalla or are used under licence. Nothing in these terms gives you any right to use them except to use the app as described here.
If you send us ideas or suggestions, we may use them freely, without any obligation to you.
10. Availability and changes to the app
We intend to publish a new image every night, but we do not promise that the app, any particular night, or any feature will always be available, uninterrupted or free of errors. Nights may be delayed, replaced or corrected. Notifications depend on your phone and its settings, and may not always arrive.
We may change, add or remove features, or stop offering the app altogether. If we stop offering the app, entries already on your phone will remain there for as long as the app is installed, but no new nights will arrive.
11. No warranty
To the fullest extent the law allows, the app is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement.
12. Limitation of liability
To the fullest extent the law allows:
- we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, special or consequential loss, or for any loss of data, including the loss of anything you wrote; and
- our total liability to you for all claims relating to the app is limited to the greater of the amount you paid us for the app in the twelve months before the claim (which, while the app is free, is nothing) and ₹1,000.
Nothing in these terms limits or excludes liability that cannot be limited or excluded by law, including liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, or for fraud.
13. Ending
You can stop using Supwrite at any time by deleting it. Deleting it also deletes everything you wrote, since your phone is the only place it exists.
We may end your licence if you seriously break these terms. Sections 5, 6, 9, 11, 12 and 15 continue to apply after these terms end.
14. Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We will change the date at the top, and if a change is significant we will tell you in the app before it takes effect. If you keep using the app after a change takes effect, you accept the updated terms.
When Modern Analog is registered as a company, we may transfer Supwrite and these terms to it. You agree that we may do so, and we will update this page when it happens. Your rights under these terms will not be reduced by the transfer.
15. Law and disputes
These terms are governed by the laws of India. Subject to the paragraph below, the courts at [city], India have exclusive jurisdiction over any dispute relating to them.
If you are a consumer living outside India, nothing in these terms takes away any protection given to you by the mandatory laws of your country, and you may also bring proceedings in your local courts where that law allows.
Before starting any formal dispute, please write to us at hi@modernanalog.co. Most problems can be settled that way.
16. General
If any part of these terms is found to be unenforceable, the rest remains in effect. If we do not enforce a right straight away, we have not given it up. These terms, together with the Privacy Policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about the app.
17. Additional terms for the Apple App Store
If you downloaded Supwrite from Apple’s App Store, the following also apply. If they conflict with anything above, these prevail.
- These terms are between you and us only, not with Apple Inc. (“Apple”). We, not Apple, are solely responsible for the app and its content.
- Your licence to use the app is limited to Apple-branded products that you own or control, as permitted by the Usage Rules in the Apple Media Services Terms and Conditions, except that the app may also be accessed by other accounts associated with you through Family Sharing or volume purchasing.
- We are solely responsible for providing any maintenance and support for the app. Apple has no obligation whatsoever to provide any maintenance or support services for the app.
- We are solely responsible for any product warranties, whether express or implied by law, to the extent not effectively disclaimed. If the app fails to conform to any applicable warranty, you may notify Apple, and Apple will refund the purchase price, if any, for the app. To the maximum extent permitted by law, Apple has no other warranty obligation whatsoever with respect to the app, and any other claims, losses, liabilities, damages, costs or expenses attributable to any failure to conform to any warranty are our responsibility.
- We, not Apple, are responsible for addressing any claims by you or any third party relating to the app or your possession or use of it, including (a) product liability claims, (b) any claim that the app fails to conform to any applicable legal or regulatory requirement, and (c) claims arising under consumer protection, privacy or similar legislation.
- If any third party claims that the app, or your possession and use of it, infringes that third party’s intellectual property rights, we, not Apple, are solely responsible for the investigation, defence, settlement and discharge of that claim.
- You represent and warrant that (a) you are not located in a country that is subject to a U.S. Government embargo, or that has been designated by the U.S. Government as a “terrorist supporting” country, and (b) you are not listed on any U.S. Government list of prohibited or restricted parties.
- Questions, complaints or claims about the app should be sent to: Rahul Agarwalla (Modern Analog), Newtown, India, hi@modernanalog.co.
- You must comply with any applicable third-party terms of agreement when using the app.
- Apple and Apple’s subsidiaries are third-party beneficiaries of these terms. Once you accept these terms, Apple will have the right (and will be deemed to have accepted the right) to enforce them against you as a third-party beneficiary.
18. Google Play
If you downloaded Supwrite from Google Play, your use of the app is also subject to the Google Play Terms of Service. Google is not a party to these terms and is not responsible for the app.
