Supwrite Privacy Policy

Last updated: 9 October 2026

Who we are

Supwrite is published by Rahul Agarwalla, an individual based in India, under the name Modern Analog. Modern Analog is a trading name. It is not yet a registered company. In this policy, “we”, “us” and “our” mean Rahul Agarwalla.

We are responsible for any personal data described in this policy. Under India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 that makes us the “Data Fiduciary”. Under the EU and UK GDPR it makes us the “controller”.

Contact for anything in this policy: hi@modernanalog.co

This policy covers the Supwrite app for iPhone and Android. Where the app sends you to a website, the last sections of this policy say what happens there.

The short version

  • What you write never leaves your phone. We never receive it, so we cannot read it, recover it, or hand it to anyone.
  • There are no accounts. No sign-up, no login, no profile.
  • There is no analytics, advertising or crash-reporting software in the app. We do not track you within the app or across other apps and websites.
  • We do not sell, rent or share personal data, because the app does not collect any.
  • The app makes one kind of request to the internet: downloading each night’s image and its text. Those requests carry nothing that identifies you.

1. What stays on your phone

Everything Supwrite keeps is stored in the app’s private storage on your device. None of it is sent to us or to anyone else.

What Why the app keeps it
Your entries: the title and text you write, the length you chose (five or ten minutes), when you started and finished, and how long you spent writing So you can read them back in the archive
Your device’s time zone offset when you started writing So a later change of time zone cannot move an old entry to the wrong night
Which nights you have opened, with a copy of each night’s text So the archive works offline, and so missed nights show as missed
Each written night’s image So your archive still has its pictures if the image is later unavailable online
Up to seven upcoming nights, downloaded in advance and hidden until each night opens So the image appears at 22:00 even on a poor connection
Your settings, such as theme, text size, haptics and notifications So the app behaves the way you set it
Where you last opened the app, as a night and a time zone offset (never a location) So travelling across time zones does not break your streak
Small records of what you have already seen, such as the introduction and whether you have been asked for a rating So the app does not repeat itself

Deleting the app deletes all of this. There is no copy anywhere else that we control.

Your phone’s own backup (iCloud Backup on iPhone, Google’s backup on Android) may include the app’s data, if you have backup turned on. Those backups are held by Apple or Google under your account and their terms. We have no access to them.

2. What goes over the internet

Each night’s image and text

To show you a night, the app downloads its image, its text and a small file of corrections from our content delivery network, which is operated by Cloudflare, Inc. The app downloads the same files for every reader. It sends no account, no device identifier, no advertising identifier, no cookies and nothing you have written.

As with any internet request, Cloudflare necessarily receives your device’s IP address and basic technical information (such as the time of the request and the type of software making it) in order to deliver the files and protect the service from abuse. We do not use this information to identify, track or profile anyone, and we do not combine it with anything else. At most we look at totals, such as roughly how many times a night’s image was downloaded. Cloudflare’s handling of this data is described in its privacy policy at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

The app also reads the time from the network’s response, to check that your phone’s clock is roughly right. That check happens on your phone. Nothing is sent back.

Nothing else

The app does not use the internet for anything other than downloading each night’s content. It contains no analytics, advertising, attribution or crash-reporting services. The typefaces are built into the app, so no font service is contacted.

3. Permissions the app asks for

Each of these is optional. The app works without them.

Permission When it is asked What it does
Notifications Once, after your first entry, or when you turn notifications on in settings Shows a reminder at 22:00. The reminder is scheduled on your phone by your phone. No server sends it, and we never receive a notification address or token. You can turn it off in Supwrite’s settings or your phone’s settings.
Face ID, Touch ID or passcode Only if the app lock is turned on Your phone checks your face, fingerprint or passcode itself. The app is told only whether the check succeeded. It never receives your face, fingerprint or passcode.
Add to Photos (iPhone) Only if you choose to save a postcard to your photos Lets the app add the postcard image to your photo library. It cannot see or read your existing photos.

Supwrite does not use your location, contacts, camera, microphone, or the photos already in your library.

4. Things that happen only when you choose them

Postcards. A postcard is drawn on your phone. It contains the night’s image, one line, the edition number, and the image’s credit unless you turn the credit off. It never contains your writing. It is shared only if you share it, through your phone’s own share sheet, to wherever you choose. What happens to it after that is governed by the app or service you sent it to.

Rating the app. Supwrite may ask for a rating after you have written on several nights, using Apple’s or Google’s own rating window. Your rating goes to the App Store or Google Play, not to us, and is handled under their terms.

Giving feedback. “Give feedback” opens your email app, addressed to us, or copies our address. If you write to us, we receive your email address and whatever you include. We use it only to read and reply to your message. We keep the conversation for as long as it is useful for answering you, and delete it within two years of our last exchange unless the law requires us to keep it longer.

Links out of the app. Some nights include a link to where the image or its story comes from, or to the sponsor of a sponsored night. “Show your work” opens our website. These open in your browser, and the sites they lead to are governed by their own privacy policies, not this one.

5. Showing your work

If you send us your own work to be shown as a night, through the form on our website or by email, we receive your name, your email address, the work itself, and anything else you choose to include. We use this only to consider your submission, reply to you, and, if your work runs, to credit you and arrange the night. If the form is run by a third-party form service, that service will be named on the form, and it stores what you submit on our behalf.

We keep a submission for up to 12 months after our last exchange if your work does not run. If it runs, we keep your name and credit for as long as the night remains part of Supwrite, because the credit is part of the night. You can ask us to delete what we hold at any time, and we will, except for anything the law requires us to keep.

Please note that once a night has been shown, its image, story and credit are stored in the archive of every phone that opened it, and we have no way to remove them from those phones.

6. Children

Supwrite is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone. The app itself collects none, from anyone of any age. Anyone under 18 who wants to submit work or write to us should do so through a parent or guardian.

7. Your rights

You can ask us at any time what personal data we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, or withdraw any consent you have given. For the app, the answer will be that we hold none: everything is on your phone, and you can delete it yourself by deleting your entries or the app. For emails and submissions, write to hi@modernanalog.co and we will respond within 30 days.

India. Under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023, you have the right to access a summary of your personal data, to correct, complete, update or erase it, to have a grievance addressed, and to nominate someone to exercise your rights if you die or become unable to. For grievances, contact Rahul Agarwalla at hi@modernanalog.co. If you are not satisfied with our response, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India.

European Economic Area, United Kingdom and Switzerland. For the limited data described in this policy, we rely on our legitimate interests: delivering each night’s content securely (section 2), and replying to messages and submissions you send us (sections 4 and 5). You have the rights to access, correct, delete, restrict and object to processing, and to data portability. You may also complain to your local data protection authority. Our service providers may process data outside your country, including in India and the United States, with the safeguards the law requires.

California and other US states. We do not sell or share personal information, as those terms are defined in California law, and we do not use it for targeted advertising.

8. Security

Your entries are protected by your phone’s own security. Anyone who has your phone unlocked may be able to open the app and read your entries. Each night’s content is downloaded over encrypted connections (HTTPS) and checked by the app before it is shown.

9. Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we will update this page and the date at the top. If a change would ever mean that something you write leaves your phone, we will not make it quietly: the app will tell you before it happens, and it will not happen without your agreement.

When Modern Analog is registered as a company, Supwrite will be transferred to it, and that company will take over our responsibilities under this policy. We will update this page when that happens. It will not change what the app collects.
